Budgel is a location-based audio/picture social network, modelled on the idea of a 'message in a bottle'. If you'd like to try it out, you can sign up for the beta here. Read on for a little more information about it.
You can create 'bottles', store some text, audio and/or a picture inside them, and 'drop' them at a particular location. People can see them on the map, but the only way someone can view what's inside it is to physically go find it. You could leave a message in the middle of Times Square and have any passer-by find it, or head into the woods and leave one where it may never be heard.
To counterbalance this, there's another 'realm' I'm calling Budgeltown. Here the whole world is compressed into a small square; no matter where someone was when they left a bottle in Budgeltown, it'll be near you. These bottles last 24 hours only, and the shared space means you're much more likely to find content in remote places. You still have to physically go to the bottles in Budgeltown, but they can't be more than 1km from you.
This is an early build of the app, so please let me know if you spot any bugs or unexpected behaviours! I'm fairly sure there will be some crashes around playback/recording, so if you can establish some circumstances where those occur I'd be really grateful.
Any feedback, criticism or other comment is welcome! You can send feedback via the TestFlight app, or directly to me at stephenjdc[at]icloud[dot]com.
P.S. The name 'Budgel' is a phonetic(ish) spelling of the Irish word for bottle, 'buidéal'.
